How to use SAKWiki

The SAKWiki website and pages work best from a computer browser screen. It is also accessible from a smartphone or tablet; if you are accessing via this method you will find that the pages work best in landscape, rather than portrait mode.

All the information about Swiss Army Knife companies, history, websites, and of course the models, can be found via the pages and menu structures described in this page, and/or via the menu panels on the right of your computer browser screen / below your smart phone Wiki page.
Please enjoy using SAKWiki!   :-)

If you know the name of the model you need to check out, go straight to that model via the size/alpha page (eg Wenger 130mm). However, SAKWiki can also be used to identify unknown models via the processes described below.

The Wiki pages contain multiple hyperlinks (highlighted in red)  to other Wiki pages - eg for tools and other models. They can be clicked to visit those pages.
The Wiki pages also contain hyperlinks to additional Wiki images - Clinking on the links take you to the image.

If you want to see a larger view of any of the Wiki images on a page, just click on the image, and you will be taken to a new page with a larger image. On that page there are two choices: Clicking on the browser back arrow takes you back to the original page – or pressing the 'Return to Gallery' button on that page takes you to the image gallery with all the images for that image set.

The Wiki backlinks button is very useful - Clicking on that button shows you a list of all the Wiki pages that link to the page you are currently viewing, and clicking on any page in the list takes you to that page.

Identifying an Unknown Model

Approach B, then C are easiest; but only if your SAK meets those criteria. Approach A should work for every SAK.

Notes:

  1. The main 'layer' tools in a Swiss Army Knife are used as the primary identifying features in SAKWiki, and in the processes below - The scales and scale tools (eg t&t) are not used, but are described in the details of each model page.
  2. Please be aware of the notes on model name and configuration changes in this page.

A: Via the Size-Layer Model Pages

  1. Identify the manufacturer - eg Victorinox, Wenger or SwissBuck
  2. Identify the size (ie length) – eg 91, or 85mm etc
  3. Count the number of tool layers in your SAK
  4. Go to the size-layer page for the Manufacturer/Size/Layer - eg Wenger 85mm 5 Layer Models
  5. Spread out the tools and check any additional features in that table that match your SAK: eg Corkscrew/Phillips, nail-file, scissors
  6. Check the model pages that match your tools to find the exact match to your toolset

B: Via the Model to Tool Tables

If your unknown model is an 84 or 91mm Victorinox: Go to the size-layer page for your SAK and review the table at the bottom of the page, where there is a model to tool table. Eg Victorinox 91mm Three-Layer Models.
If your unknown model is a Victorinox 111mm Slide-Lock or Liner-Lock model follow these links.
There is also a model to tool reference chart/page for Wenger 85mm and Ranger 130mm models.

C: Via the Family Images and Diagrams

If your unknown model is a Victorinox regular or Victorinox Delémont model: Go to the alpha list page for that size, and page down to the bottom, where you will find images (and on some pages, diagrams) that show the models with their tools spread out for that size. Eg. The Victorinox 91mm page. Note: These images do not always show retired models.

D: Via the Tool to Model Pages

If your Victorinox model has one of the less common tools, such as the magnifying glass or the pliers you may be able to find it either via the tool page, (eg Pliers) or you can check the main tool to model page. Note: This method will not work for common tools such as the main blade or can-opener etc.

Still can't find your model?

SAKWiki aims to be as complete as possible, however you may still not be able to find your SAK. If you cannot find it, please report this via the Wiki thread in the Swiss Army Knights board at www.multitool.org.
Note: This issue is somewhat common for Wenger 85mm models where there are many model variations based on locking blade, serrated blade, corkscrew vs Phillips, small blade vs nail-file, and these variations were not always in catalogues or known to the Swiss Army Knights!

Found an Error in SAKWiki?

SAKWiki aims to be as accurate and complete as possible. However the information has been compiled from various sources - see this page, and from the knowledge of the editors, and there may be errors. If you do find an error, please report it via the Swiss Army Knights Wiki thread.
